Fire Urchin (Astropyga radiata) is a species of sea urchin found in the benthic habitats of coral reefs throughout the Indo-Pacific. They are known for their vibrant red, orange, yellow, and purple spines and tube feet, which provide camouflage in their surroundings. As herbivores, they feed on algae and are equipped with venomous spines as a defense mechanism against predators. Fire Urchins are also capable of regenerating their spines if they are damaged or lost. Despite being a popular species in the marine aquarium trade, sustainable harvesting practices are necessary to maintain healthy reef communities and protect marine biodiversity.

A Long Spined Sea Urchin (Centrostephanus longispinus) in the Mediterranean Sea
Centrostephanus longispinus, the hatpin urchin, is a species of sea urchin in the family Diadematidae. There are two subspecies, Centrostephanus l. longispinus, found in the eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean Sea and Centrostephanus l. rubricingulus, found in the western Atlantic.
Asthenosoma varium is a large urchin (25 cm) with flattened, flexible test (the plates are articulated rather than fused). Very mobile, short spines, arranged in rectangular areas, separated by spineless areas. Spines have a blue swelling close to the tip, filled with venom.Living in bay, lagoon, external reef; on sandy or rubble bottoms. The flexible test allows, changing the shape, to enter very narrow crevices. The swollen shape of the spines and the flexible test are unique features. \nAsthenosoma varium sting can be very painful, a strong local pain due to venom injection can last for hours.\nThis specimen was encountered in a very shallow tunnel in the Triton Bay, Indonesia \n3°54'51.39 S 134°7'24.81 E at 2m depth

Mespilia globulus, commonly known as the globular sea urchin, is a species of echinoderm found in the coral reefs and intertidal zones of the western Pacific and Indian Ocean. It is a spiny, spherical invertebrate with a calcareous test and tube feet used for locomotion and feeding. As an herbivore, it grazes on algae and other plant material found on the reef, but also scavenges on the sandy sea floor as an omnivore. The pentaradial symmetry of its body plan is characteristic of the phylum Echinodermata, which includes sea stars and other sea creatures. Despite its spiny exterior, it is a popular subject of study in marine biology and ecology due to its important role in reef ecosystems.

The Fire Urchin (Asthenosoma varium) is a tropical marine invertebrate commonly found in shallow waters on rocky substrates of coral reefs. This echinoderm has a distinctive appearance with its red, orange, and black spiny skin, which is covered in bristle-like spines that are venomous and toxic to predators. It has a calcareous exoskeleton and radial symmetry, and uses its tube feet for locomotion, feeding, and defense. Fire Urchins are omnivorous and act as scavengers and predators, using their camouflage and defense mechanisms to protect themselves from danger. They are a fascinating species to observe in aquatic environments, but should be treated with caution due to their poisonous spines.
