That makes the Olojo festival, one of the oldest in Africa, celebrated all over Yorubaland. It celebrates the dawn of the first day of existence on Earth. There is a parallel between this and the Judeo-Christian theology of creation, conceived with the divine proclamation: “Let there be light.”

Ngas men performing their custom during the 2023 Puusdung Festival at Pankshin Mini Stadium, Plateau State Nigeria.\nThe Ngas are known to have come originally from Yemen through kanem, and ultimately from Borno to their present location. They are believed to have left Borno sometime between 1100 and 1350 AD. The Ngas themselves had come originally from Kanem and so became part of the pre-kanuri inhabitants of the plains Bornu, owning sheep and perhaps cattle but not a camel. Linguistically Ngas belongs to the Afro asiantic class called the Chadic group of languages. The Ngas people are hardworkng, industrious, selfless, trusted, reliable, and dependable people, and have at one point or other made their mark in different fields of human endeavors.
