A suggestive and detailed view of the Palazzo Senatorio, built during the 13th and 14th centuries, and the bronze copy of the equestrian statue of Emperor Marcus Aurelius in the Piazza del Campidoglio (Capitoline Square), on top of the Capitoline Hill. This square and the palace was designed by Michelangelo Buonarroti. The original statue of Marcus Aurelius is kept inside the Palazzo dei Conservatori nearby. Pisa, Italy - September 2, 2008: Capitoline Wolf (Lupa Capitolina) Sculpture with Palazzo dell'Opera in background, Piazza del Duomo (Campo dei Miracoli), Pisa, Tuscany, Italy. This is a bronze sculpture of the mythical she-wolf suckling the twins, Romulus and Remus, from the legend of the founding of Rome. The Opera Palace is a complex of houses that have been built in different periods, with the main building dating back to at least the 14th century. Originally these houses belonged to the workmen of the cathedral complex, until the 19th century when the administration offices of the Opera della Primaziale were moved in. Landscaped green grass, sightseeing tourists and vivid blue clear sky are in the image.

The Colosseum or Coliseum in Rome is the largest amphitheater ever built.  Built of concrete and sand, its construction began in A.D.72 and completed A.D,80.  It could hold between 50,000 to 80,000 spectators,  It was used for gladiatorial contests and public events such as mock sea battles, animal hunts, executions, dramas, and re-enactments of famous battles,  The outer wall is estimated to have required 3.5 million cubic feet of travertine stone which were set without mortar.  It has suffered extensive damage over the centuries mainly from earthquakes.  Two hundred forty mast corbels were positioned around the top to support a retractable awning that kept the sun and rain off spectators.  The arena comprised a wooden floor covered by sand underneath structure consisting of a two level network of tunnels and cages where gladiators and animals were held before
